Strips of bright colored wool are laid across a clothesrack, drying in the sun. From left to right, a gradient moves through deep dark teal green trhough to bright pink and getting lighter into purple and eventually a dark purple with splotches of colour all over

June Update!

A few different fibres and breeds of wool are available this month.

For the spinners and felters:
I’ve been dyeing wool sourced locally from a farm mill just 40 minutes away from my studioTai Tapu Wool Carders. In addition to their homegrown 100% Corriedale wool combed top, I selected some raw fleeces of Polwarth wool to be processed – washed, carded, and gilled, which has come out as a buttery soft 100% Polwarth combed top.

For the fibre preppers:
I have dyed kid angora mohair, locally sourced from an angora goat farm just 15 minutes away from my studio.
Also, possum fur, which I collected last week from possums culled as part of my conservation and native restoration work.

For lovers of handmade wool goodies: I dyed a white skein of locally made merino wool yarn purple and yellow and then got to handweaving it on my rigid heddle loom, transforming plain merino into an eye-catching work of art that can be worn as a winter warmer accessory.
