Fundraiser Raffle!!

Kia ora, hello!

I am pleased to share this Raffle fundraiser on behalf of my lovely friend Jess (@cnyttancnottan).

As the genocide and ethnic cleansing of Palestinians continues unabated, and leaders of the Western imperial block still do nothing to prevent this orchestrated catastrophe, it can leave us feeling powerless to help. However, humanity is still with us and there are kind souls like Jess and Elle, who I will hand this post over to now…

Thanks for your support, Charlotte

The Raffle

Text: "Raffle!". And photos of two knitted beanies; one purple and white with a floral motif, and one shades of brown with a botanical motif. A crocheted turtle in an egg, and some tartreez embroidery in a feather star pattern

Jess: Thank you to Charlotte for the lend of her blog!

My mate Elle (@elle.is.beyond.tired) and I (Jess – @cnyttan.cnottan) have been in touch with some families in Palestine over the last year or so. I think it goes without saying that they’ve been having a beyond horrific time. We want to give them a helping hand, and show them that we all care about them. So we’ve put our crafty skills to good use for this raffle.

The Prizes

A photo of tartreez embroidery. It is in a star shape geometric pattern worked in pink, red, and blue. Text: "Prize One: Tartreez of Najma Ma Reesh / Feather Star Pattern from the Hebron area, made by Elle. Pattern from the Tirazain Initiative. Mounted on a blank greeting card. Open worldwide! "

Elle is skilled in needlework and has made this beautiful tartreez, a traditional form of Palestinian embroidery. It’s in the Najma Ma Reesh (feather star) pattern from Hebron. This prize is open worldwide.

A photo of a crochet turtle that is sitting in a crocheted egg. Text: Prize Two: A crochet turtle that comes with it's own egg; handmade by Elle's mother-in-law, Sue. Open to those in Australia and Aotearoa New Zealand. Note: not suitable for children under 5 due to choking hazard."

Elle’s mother-in-law Sue has contributed this cute crochet turtle! It even comes with it’s own egg! This prize is open to those in Aotearoa (New Zealand) and Australia.

Two beanies; one is white with a purple floral motif, and the other is light brown, with a dark brown botanical motif. Text: "Prize Three: Two hand-knitted beanies! The lilac and white one is made with merino and husky wool. The brown one is made with Jess's handspun Haunui wool. Both knitted by Jess. Open worldwide!"

And I’ve (Jess) made two colourwork hats.

The white yarn in the white and purple hat is a husky merino blend! And very soft.

The brown, botanical hat is made with my handspun yarn. Charlotte prepared the batts for me – they are from her Coffee Collection; in the Espresso and Macchiato colourways. The Haunui was a delight to spin with, being both long stapled and soft.

I hope that the winner will enjoy wearing them just as much. This prize is open worldwide!

The Families

Text: "Omar and the Mousa Family. Omar is the 6 year old son of Mohammed and Shorouq. Omar is living with his mum and three siblings outside of Gaza where they have little support as refugees. They were able to evacuate Gaza before the border closed with a loan but couldn’t afford to get Mohammed out as well. Omar is finally undergoing treatment for a rare vascular brain tumour, while his dad is volunteering as a doctor in a tent clinic in al-Mawasi. Money raised will help Mohammed to survive and eventually evacuate, and to repay the loan used to evacuate Shorouq and the children." There is also a picture of Mohammed and Omar together and a link to their chuffed page which is: bit.ly/4jW3fo4

Text: Boshra Abualkhair: Boshra is a teenager originally from Jabalia City. She is disabled and chronically ill due to Muscular Dystrophy. Conditions in Gaza are extreme and untenable, especially managing a complex health situation on top of a genocide. She has been forcibly displaced multiple times. There are twenty members in her family. No food has been allowed into Gaza for months and she is being starved. She needs aid to purchase food which has become extremely expensive. She is also seeking aid to ultimately escape to Egypt. Boshra has been interviewed by the BBC about living with a disability in Gaza: bit.ly/3YpmQ7h".
